Football Hero

Ruined

Killer Pizza

39 Clues

Rucker Park Setup

I love this author and I think you guys will too!

While playing in a crucial basketball game on the very court where his best friend was murdered, Mackey tries to come to terms with his own part in that murder and decide whether to maintain his silence or tell J.R.'s father and the police what really happened.

Urban Underground

For all you Bluford High fans out there, the author behind that series has created another series of books called the Urban Underground. They are similar to Bluford High in length and style. Here are just a couple, but I have about 10 different books available in this series for you to check out....

After his sister's friend is accidentally shot in a drive-by shooting, Jaris Spain realizes that his rival for Sereeta's affections, DeWayne Pike, may have actually been the intended target.

Jaris Spain tries to navigate through high school as he deals with trouble at home, his failure at sports, his difficulty in the classroom, and trying to get Sereeta Prince to notice him.

Found (Again)

The sequels to Found called Sent and Sabotaged just came in this week...so I wanted to direct your attention this way! Here are a couple of brief synopses for these books:

When thirteen-year-olds Jonah and Chip, who are both adopted, learn they were discovered on a plane that appeared out of nowhere, full of babies with no adults on board, they realize that they have uncovered a mystery involving time travel and two opposing forces, each trying to repair the fabric of time.

And here is the second book in the series....

Jonah, Katherine, Chip, and Alex suddenly find themselves in 1483 at the Tower of London, where they discover that Chip and Alex are Prince Edward V and Richard of Shrewsbury, imprisoned by their uncle, King Richard III, but trying to repair history without knowing what is supposed to happen proves challenging. Author's note includes historical facts about the princes and king.

And the latest release in this series....

Time-travelers Jonah and Katherine are summoned to help another missing child from history, this time Virginia Dare from the Roanoke Colony, but their journey is sabotaged and goes dangerously awry, leaving them in the wrong time period. Includes author's note about the history of Roanoke Colony and Virginia Dare.

Library News You Can Use!

Girls' Book Club is back! We will start meeting one Friday afternoon a month in October. There will be an informational meeting on Friday, October 7 after school from 3:45-4:30pm so hope to see you there!

We are also starting the Book-It program for 6th graders in October. Make sure you turn in a story sequence, story map, or summary once a month to earn your free pizza certificate!

Breakfast Book Club is going well but we are having a few problems on Friday mornings. Remember you MUST sign up in advance EVERY week. When you sign up, I will give you a pass and put your name on a list. On Friday mornings, I will make sure the monitors downstairs have a list. You will need to arrive no later than 8:15am and show the monitors your pass. If you are late or you lose your pass, you will have to wait until the following week.

We will also have our first cookies and milk party the week of October 17, so you have a few days left to get your punches in before the six weeks ends!

Look forward to seeing you in the library soon!

The first is a book you all have been sleeping on here at PCA...the rest of the world is crazy about this series! You need to get on it! It is going to be made into a movie soon. There are two more that follow this one in the series.

The next one is one that lots of you have been requesting...hopefully we can do a better job of keeping up with our DOAWK books this year!

Lots of you girls like the drama books, so here are a couple by your favorite authors that are new to our shelves.

I really like Paul Volponi as an author for you guys especially. I haven't read this one but it sounds like a page-turner.

Welcome Back!

Hello, Pearl C. readers! I hope everyone enjoyed the summer and maybe even got some reading in! I know I did! I'm looking forward to getting back into a routine and seeing you on a regular basis in the library this year. I hope you all don't forget about me up here on the 3rd floor by myself!

This year our incentive them is going to be "Be a Smart Cookie: Read!" Who doesn't love cookies and milk? That will be your treat from me if you utilize the library consistently and complete your punch card each six weeks. Remember you get the most punches for bringing the books back so let's please try to do a better job of keeping up with our books this year!

We will also get back on track with our breakfast book club on September 9. We need to finish up the last couple of chapters of Skeleton Creek so we can get started on Ghost in the Machine. I hope to finish the trilogy by Christmas!

Our new books should be coming in soon. Meanwhile, I'm sure there are still plenty you haven't read in here!

See you soon!

Ticket to Reading Rewards

This semester I'm really going to be encouraging you all to participate in our reading incentive program entitled "Ticket to Reading Rewards." Hopefully you are all doing lots of independent reading anyway, and this program just gives you a few little perks here and there along the way to reward you. Our first rally date will be the last day of January, so try to meet the first goal of 5 books read by then in order to receive the first prize!
