Library FYI

Hello students! I hope everyone enjoyed the Thanksgiving break! It has been awhile since I've seen many of you face to face so I wanted to take a moment to update you on some things going on in our Pearl C. Anderson library.

First of all, Twilight Book Club is still being held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:30-4:30. I really enjoyed taking about 10 students to see "New Moon" last Friday...you were a great group and I had fun with you! But just because we have seen the movie now doesn't mean taht we should give up reading the books, so I still expect to see you tomorrow afternoon right after school! :-)

The Girls Book Club (reading "Hotlanta") and the Boys' Book Club (reading "Skeleton Creek") has been moved to Fridays during A,B,C lunch. I have posted the 20 members of Girls Book Club on the outside of the library door. These 20 girls need to come pick up a pass before Friday! The boys who signed up for Skeleton Creek need to pick up a pass as well. Please bring a drink with you on Friday...pizza will be provided. See you then!

Sixth graders, don't forget about "Book It!" Hopefully you read two books during November and can fill out an activity sheet for them this week so you may receive your pizza certificate for the month of November. Story maps or story sequences are available in the folders posted by the library door. Take advantage of FREE pizza while you can!

Looking forward to seeing you all soon in either book clubs or with your reading classes! Have a great week!

Another Skeleton Creek Sneak Peek...

I can't wait! Can you??

Skeleton Creek....Coming Next Week!

Boys, check out the book we will be reading in book club starting next Wednesday. Sign up today! F

The Books Are Here, The Books Are Here!!!

All of the books I ordered for our girls' and boys' lunchtime book clubs are FINALLY here which means we can get started with our once a week meetings on Wednesdays!!

This year will be a little different than last year. The first big difference is that there will be a girls' book club as well as a boys' book club on Wednesdays. The boys will meet in the front of the library and the girls will meet in the back. I would like to have it on separate days, but I can't leave to go pick up pizza two days every week...that's doing too much as some people would say! :-) So we will have to compromise!

The boys' will be reading the thrilling book called "Skeleton Creek." Here is a synopsis:

There are two sides to this story — one is written, the other is on video. Something mysterious is happening in Skeleton Creek. Something scary. Something sinister. Ryan came close to it... and nearly died. Now he's trapped in his house. He can't trust anyone — not even himself. He is forbidden from seeing his best friend, Sarah. So while Ryan is isolated and alone, she plunges back into the mystery, putting her life on the line to get to the truth.

Ryan is desperately trying to write down the full story. And while he does, Sarah takes videos of what she finds, then sends him the links so he can watch. Together, they discover: The past is dangerous. The present is haunted. And the future is deadly.

Welcome to Skeleton Creek. Read it. Watch it. Live it.

Skeleton Creek contains links to almost an hour of exclusive video footage. The book is Ryan's story. The videos are Sarah's.

Wow...sounds good doesn't it! Be sure to check out the trailer that I posted above.

Now, the girls will be reading a drama-filled teen novel called "Hotlanta." Here is a synopsis of that book:

The Duke twins, Sydney and Lauren, live the life. They attend the fanciest school in Atlanta, they live in Buckhead, the most exclusive neighborhood, and they only date the hottest guys. And their secrets? Are the darkest of all. When their estranged father is released from prison and a murder is committed, their lives are plunged into a whirlwind of tabloid scrutiny, vicious gossip, and shocking revelation.

Lauren, always such a party girl, and Sydney, bent on perfection by way of the Ivy League, can't trust anyone. Not their mother, not their rich stepfather. Maybe not even each other.

What do you think?? Sounds like it has all the drama your little teenage hearts could want! Come check it out...there's a whole series to come if you like it!

Now, the next thing is different this year is that the book club is only open to the first 20 people who sign up and COMMIT to being there every Wednesday. If you miss a week without a valid reason, your spot will be replaced with someone on the waiting list. Although we enjoy the pizza every week, the purpose is to finish a book, which you can't do if you only show up when you feel like eating pizza. So I'm looking for dedicated readers for book club this year...sign up if this is you!!

We will get started a week from next Wednesday....November 9. I can't wait! You're going to LOVE this books! :-)

Next week we will be starting our "Pop Open a Good Book" reading incentive program here at PCA. Basically, each student gets points for checking out books, reading books, and returning books. Students with 10 or more points will get free popcorn and a drink on the last Friday of each month. You will get more details when you come with your reading class next week.

Also next sixth graders can get ready for Team Bluebonnet! This is a group of sixth graders who are committed to reading at least 5 of the Bluebonnet award winners in order to vote in January. You will be invited to a special voting party for participating.

And finally, also for sixth graders is the Book-It program. For this, you simply need to read two books a month and complete a brief review activity and you will get a free Pizza Hut certificate!
