It Was a Book Before It Was a Movie!!!

"Percy Jackson and the Olympians" came in number 3 at the box office this past weekend. Some of you may have even watched this movie at the theatre. But how many of you have actually read the series? Check out this trailer for the original book by Rick Riordan and find it in our library today!

NEW BOOKS ARE HERE!

I am so very excited because a partial shipment of our new books has arrived! I have 263 brand new exciting books for you all to check out when you return to the library this week! For the first time ever, our library now offers three manga series (Naruto, Dragonball-Z, and Vampire Game) as well as several vampire series (Vampire Academy, Vampire Kisses, and Vampire Diaries). I also have several new urban teen series for all my girls who love those drama books (Drama High, Denim Diaries, Hotlanta) and lots of Ripley's Believe It or Not, Bart Simpson, and Boondocks for the guys! There are so many books that I just know you're going to love...I can't wait to introduce you to these authors and titles soon. I will be posting book trailers and booktalks throughout the weeks ahead so keep checking the blog! Feel free to leave comments on the trailers or posts about books that you've read to let your peers know what you thought!

Deep, Dark, and Dangerous

For all my readers who are always requesting a "scary" book....

39 Clues

Hello Pearl C. Readers! It seems like it has been awhile since I've seen your beautiful faces because of the holidays and then the library being closed for inventory. Now we have a week of testing and then two days off for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, so it will be practically February until we get back into a regular routine! Our book clubs are on pause until our schedule returns to normal. Girls and Boys Book Clubs at lunch on Fridays will resume on January 22. Our Twilight Book Club will resume on Thursday, January 21. Soon I will be passing out the book club books to dedicated members to read at home, so don't miss out! Also, Twilight book club members will also be learning how to create book trailers and making their own trailers for the Twilight saga, so I'm really excited to get started on that.

I'm eagerly waiting for our latest shipment of books to arrive. Sometime in the next couple of months we will be receiving lots of new, fun titles so stay tuned! I will be posting book trailers of some of our new books soon!

This semester when you come with your reading classes we are going to be talking more about research and how to find reliable sources of information on the internet. We will also be talking about great resources such as DASH (online homework help) so I look forward to seeing you when you visit with your reading teachers.

See you soon! Keep reading!
Ms. Embry

Library FYI

Hello students! I hope everyone enjoyed the Thanksgiving break! It has been awhile since I've seen many of you face to face so I wanted to take a moment to update you on some things going on in our Pearl C. Anderson library.

First of all, Twilight Book Club is still being held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:30-4:30. I really enjoyed taking about 10 students to see "New Moon" last Friday...you were a great group and I had fun with you! But just because we have seen the movie now doesn't mean taht we should give up reading the books, so I still expect to see you tomorrow afternoon right after school! :-)

The Girls Book Club (reading "Hotlanta") and the Boys' Book Club (reading "Skeleton Creek") has been moved to Fridays during A,B,C lunch. I have posted the 20 members of Girls Book Club on the outside of the library door. These 20 girls need to come pick up a pass before Friday! The boys who signed up for Skeleton Creek need to pick up a pass as well. Please bring a drink with you on Friday...pizza will be provided. See you then!

Sixth graders, don't forget about "Book It!" Hopefully you read two books during November and can fill out an activity sheet for them this week so you may receive your pizza certificate for the month of November. Story maps or story sequences are available in the folders posted by the library door. Take advantage of FREE pizza while you can!

Looking forward to seeing you all soon in either book clubs or with your reading classes! Have a great week!
